5 Things to Know About New Blood Pressure Guidelines

Blood pressure is caused by pressure against the arterial walls. The heart acts as a pump and each beat causes an increase in the arterial pressure.  It’s important to help the blood flow run through your body to reach your organs for basic function.

For some people, blood pressure can get too high. This is true for about one-third of American adults. High blood pressure or hypertension can lead to heart failure, stroke, heart disease and heart attacks. High blood pressure also effects vision and kidney function.  It’s very important to get blood pressure under control.  You should have it checked once a year if you’re healthy having no other medical issues. If higher, it needs to be checked more often. There are also new blood pressure guidelines that may mean more people will be diagnosed earlier with hypertension and pre-hypertension.  Check out 5 Things You Need to Know About the New Blood Pressure Guidelines.  Lourdesnet.org.
