Beyonce has donated $25,000 to Wilberforce University to provide a scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.

The university was one of four historically black colleges to be recognized by the singer following her performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The show was a celebration of the homecoming weekend experience, according to a news release by Parkwood Entertainment, which houses BeyGOOD, the singer's philanthropy. Beyonce was the headline act at Coachella on Saturday.

The Homecoming Scholars Award Program, established through BeyGOOD, was announced Monday.

Also receiving scholarship funds were  Xavier University of Louisiville, Tuskegee University in Alabama and Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Wilberforce, east of Dayton, is the oldest private historically black university in the nation.

One student from each of the four schools will receive $25,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year for study in various fields. All applicants must maintain a minimum 3.5-grade-point average. All finalists and winners will be selected by the universities.
